A menu maker built around real restaurant work

Start from what you already have — categories, dishes and prices. Type them in and the layout handles typography, spacing and colors; prices display in any of 26 supported currencies.

Three layouts cover different jobs: a text-first menu for long lists, big photo blocks for signature dishes, and a single-dish poster for specials. Add photos by uploading them straight into the editor or picking an earlier upload from your image library — and dishes without a photo stay clean as text.

Finish with a background: choose one of 10 free presets or generate your own with AI credits. Mark sold-out dishes, save with one click, then print the menu or publish it as a QR code menu that updates the moment you save.

Expert answers

Answered by the MenuLolo team — based on our product experience and the sources cited on this page.

How do I design a menu that sells more?

Treat the menu as a revenue tool, not a price list — the approach Cornell's Center for Hospitality Research formalized as menu engineering, which its research identifies as an important lever for maximizing revenue, especially in slower periods. In practice: lead with your signature dishes, give them photos, and keep the design quiet enough that the food stands out. MenuLolo's three layouts are built on that principle, so you get the structure without hiring a designer.

Do photos on menus increase sales?

Yes, the evidence points that way: a peer-reviewed study in the International Journal of Hospitality Management found a menu's visual appeal and informativeness indirectly raise purchase intention through the desire for food. MenuLolo lets you upload dish photos straight into the editor — or sharpen them first with a true-to-life AI editor, where light and color improve while dishes stay recognizably yours.

Do I need a designer to make a professional menu?

No — professional menus are mostly disciplined typography: consistent spacing, a restrained palette and one clear hierarchy. MenuLolo ships that discipline as three ready layouts with free background presets and 26 currency formats, so you type your dishes and the design takes care of itself.

Frequently asked questions

Is the menu maker free?

Yes — the Free plan includes one menu with up to 5 dishes plus a one-time 10-credit signup bonus (never expires). Paid plans add more dishes, all three layouts and make your published QR menu visible to guests.

Do I need a photo of my current menu?

No. Type your categories, dishes and prices — there is nothing to upload. You can also start from the demo menu and edit it.

How do I add photos to my dishes?

Open a dish in the editor and upload a photo directly, or pick an earlier upload from your image library — both instant and free of credits. If you want sharper shots, you can enhance photos first with the AI food photo editor (10 credits per photo). Dishes without a photo simply show text.

How much does AI background generation cost?

Preset backgrounds are free. Generating one with AI costs 10 credits per image — every plan includes monthly credits, and top-ups are available.

Can I print the menu?

Yes. The layouts are designed for print — open your menu and print it from the browser, or save it as a PDF. The QR code downloads as SVG or high-resolution PNG for table cards.

How do I publish the QR code menu?

Publish from the editor, then download the QR code as SVG or PNG. Guests scan it with their phone camera — no app or account needed. Publishing to guests requires Starter or Pro.

Can I edit my menu after publishing?

Yes — edit any dish anytime in the editor and click Save; your changes go live on the public page after saving. The QR code and link never change.

Who owns my menu data?

You do. Your dishes, prices, photos and published page stay in your account — edit, duplicate or delete a menu anytime, and deleting takes its public link offline.

What early users say

3 layouts

“No more reprinting the whole menu for one dish change — I edit on my phone and the QR codes on the tables are instantly up to date. That alone saves a print run every season.”
Beta user · Independent café owner
“Guests ask if we hired a food photographer — it's just phone photos with AI enhancement. The menu looks so much more premium now.”

Why MenuLolo

Minutes, not hours

AI photo enhancement replaces manual retouching — a full set of dish photos is ready in the time it takes to brew coffee.

Real food, honestly shown

Enhancement keeps every dish true to the plate — no invented ingredients, no reshaped food — so guests trust what they order.

One menu, everywhere

Publish once and share by QR code, link or print — price and dish updates go live everywhere without reprinting.

FAQ

How do credits work and when do I get them?

One AI dish photo enhancement or background generation costs 10 credits. You get 10 credits once at signup (never expire). Paid plans receive monthly credits automatically on the 1st (UTC) — 1,000 for Starter, 2,400 for Pro. Top-up pack credits never expire.

What can I do on the Free plan?

Try the full editor: all 3 menu layouts, plus one AI enhancement (10 credits). Saving and publishing menus and watermark removal are paid features, priority support is Pro-only — Free edits are not saved.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Subscriptions are self-managed via Stripe with no long-term contract. After canceling, paid features stay active until the end of the billing period; published menus then display on the Free tier (with watermark). Your data stays exportable.

What do paid plans add over Free?

All plans include all 3 menu layouts. Paid plans add saving and publishing menus, more menus and dishes per menu, watermark removal and monthly AI credits — unlimited dishes per menu is a Pro feature.

What if I need help?

Self-serve AI tools are available 24/7; email support replies within 3 business days.

Prices in USD. Paid plans' monthly credits reset on the 1st (UTC); the free plan's 10 signup credits are one-time and never expire; top-up packs never expire.

How credits work

  • 10 credits at registration (never expire) + monthly plan credits on purchase/renewal (Starter 1,000 / Pro 2,400).
  • 1 AI photo enhancement or AI menu background = 10 credits.
  • Monthly plan credits expire at each billing cycle end; signup and top-up credits never expire.
  • Spending draws signup credits first, then subscription credits, then top-up credits.

On a paid plan every month starts with 1,000–2,400 fresh credits (about 100–240 enhancements), plus watermark removal and all three menu layouts — usually cheaper per photo than top-ups.
